Bei Handmähern ist der Antrieb direkt mit der Welle verbunden und das Messer läuft durchgehend mit.<\/p><p>Die Funktion der Messerkupplung ist es, die Welle des Motors mit dem Antrieb des Messers zu verbinden. Der <strong>Antriebsriemen<\/strong> sorgt für die <strong>Kraftübertragung<\/strong> von der Kupplung. Die Kupplung ermöglicht es die Welle vom Antrieb zu trennen und diesen dadurch in den Leerlauf zu stellen. Das Messer wird also erst angetrieben, <strong>wenn der Fahrer die Messerkupplung einlegt<\/strong> und so die Welle mit dem Antrieb verbindet. <\/p><p>Unterschieden wird zwischen <strong>mechanischer<\/strong> und <strong>elektromagnetischer<\/strong> Messerkupplung. Optisch ist der unterschied sehr leicht zu erkennen, da eine elektromagnetische Messerkupplung meist kompakter und mit einem Kabel ausgestattet ist. <\/p><p>Jeder Rasentraktor verfügt nur über eine Messerkupplung.
